Osamu (おさむ) Yureimoto is the patriarch of the Yureimoto family. He is Erma's maternal grandfather.

Background/Personality[]

Not much is known of the Yureimoto family, all that is known is that he's a feared and respected yokai.

He has a very strained relationship with his children, wanting them to be strong and feared, it's unknown if this was out of love or not wanting his family to be weak.

The mere mention of his name strikes fear into everyone that knows him, which is the reason why no one would dare assault his family

After Emiko left, he has been keeping a close eye on her letting her believe that she was free, but soon took an active approach when she married Sam Williams, faking her death and taking her back to Japan. But soon after she escaped again, with the help of Yori, as stated by Yori when he found out. He was awfully silent compared to his usual anger.

After this event, he took a long trip, where he kept to himself not being heard from for awhile until he finally returned home for the Village Parade.

Upon his return, even in his casual form every yokai either bowed or ran away in terror, but as soon as he was about to head to the throne room Erma bumped into him catching everyone by surprise when Osamu realized who she was his attitude made a complete change, from a terrifying creature to a loving grandfather showering her with love and affection, to which Erma returned much to everyone's dismay.

Abilities[]

  • Enhanced Strength: Osamu is capable of handling a small army single-handed.
  • Teleportation: This was how he was able to keep tabs on Emiko and bring her back.
  • Flight: While not confirmed yet, he is most likely capable of flying with the wings on his back.

Relationships[]

  • Amaya Yureimoto: Not much is known about the matriarch of the family.
  • Emiko Williams: While wanting what's best for her, in his eyes, he kept her on a short leash never letting her leave his sight, while he does love her, he also wanted to make sure that she was living up to his expectation which ended badly. He soon revealed that he could take her back at anytime, but chose not to
  • Sam Williams: Upon meeting Samuel for the first time, it was implied that Osamu was a bit angered by the sight of his son-in-law would be human, but the only said "You must be Samuel", Samuel did the same in return, with both having disappointed and angered faces. However, both accepted their appearance before each other. He was even happy that he managed to survive the car crash on their wedding day.
  • Fumiko Yureimoto: While not much is know currently about their relationship, Fumiko seems to take her father's teaching to heart, being cold and distant to everyone beneath her with the exception of Haru
  • Yori Yūreimoto: While each daughter has a different type of relationship, Yori might be his least favorite for helping Emiko escape. But holds a deep comforting relationship with Momo and Mitsu. Also, though not confirmed Osamu is might not be oblivious to their true nature.
  • Erma Williams: It is shown during Erma's birthday that Osamu sent her a gift, which was burned away when Emiko discovered it. This would imply that Osamu loves his half-human granddaughter. Erma, however, has yet to meet Osamu in person until the events of The Night Parade Arc. Upon meeting her, Osamu was elated to see his granddaughter by complimenting her and giving her kisses and "compliments". He also belives that she has the potential to ascend his throne when or if that time comes to pass.

Trivia[]

  • Osamu is a Tengu, a type of legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion. They are considered a type of yōkai or Shinto Kami.
    • His name in Japanese means "save", which is ironic for a yokai who despises humans and nearly killed Sam
  • Out of all his children, only Kentaro Yūreimoto looks the most like him, hence being his only son.
  • He is the only Yuriemoto with normal eyes (White Scalra, Black Eyes)
  • It is speculated that Osamu and the Invisible man from Spirit's Bloom may be the same Yokai.
